Conference Theme

Operations and Supply Chain Management for the Public Good

In an era defined by global volatility and shifting social contracts, the “Public Good” is no longer a peripheral concern for operations and supply-chain professionals – it is the central mandate. EurOMA 2027 in York brings together leading and emerging voices to move beyond traditional metrics of cost-minimisation and profit-maximisation and add to the understanding of the frontier between operations and supply chain management and societal outcomes. We seek to explore how operations can be intentionally engineered to serve as an engine for resilience, equity, and societal well-being, ensuring that the movement of goods and services actively contributes to the health of our communities and the planet.

The theme of EurOMA 2027 recognises that the most pressing problems – from climate-induced disruptions and healthcare inequalities to the ethical delivery of humanitarian aid – require a fundamental shift in operational logic. By hosting this academic conference in York, a historic logistics hub and a city at the forefront of social policy, we aim to bridge the gap between high-level theory and grassroots impact. We will examine the transition from “Business as Usual” to “Operations for Impact,” where supply chain transparency, ethical labour practices, and resource security are treated as non-negotiable pillars of a stable society.

We invite academically rigorous contributions that demonstrate ambition and adventure to impact on the business transition to solving our most pressing problems.
